One Day Trip to Lijiang, China



It is a secret that China is a melting pot for a photographer inexhaustible curiosity and a constant source of surprises for the visitor. On my first visit to China in November 2009 I was blown away by the diversity of landscapes, but also by the various morphologies encountered by ethnic group randomly provinces. In Yunnan, for example, north-east, I walked for two days in one of the most touristic cities in the region: Lijiang.

Those who read me here for a while know that I have not cracked under the spell supposed to Lijiang. Its old city listed as UNESCO heritage promised bells and whistles and I have found that a mini Disneyland commercial. Of course, I am a bit harsh in that decision and some will find the pleasure of a visit devoted to the so-called craft shopping at the mercy of small shops located in each period houses converted to meet a consumer need frantic . I therefore strongly recommended visiting the old town at dawn to enjoy the scene without being distracted by the orators of restaurants.

By cons I jumped in the streets away from the purely tourist center a few street scenes more consistent with my view of China and its everyday reality. For example this photo, taken in late afternoon when the workers working in factories around returning to the fold. What I liked about it is this difference that there is more between new generation and traditional China; the workers dressed in fashion Mao stand in front of the young modern woman dragging a suitcase behind her travel.
